The Legislative Audit Division (LAD) is seeking financial compliance audit interns for a summer internship. Directed by the Legislative Auditor, LAD is responsible for auditing Montana state agencies and programs.

A successful candidate:
 is working towards obtaining a bachelor’s degree
 has obtained, or is enrolled to obtain by the end of the current academic year, 6 semester hours (or equivalent quarter hours) of relevant upper division accounting coursework
 demonstrates analytical and critical thinking skills
 has sound written and verbal communication skills
 has ability to work well independently and within a team setting
 has good interpersonal skills

Preference will be given to candidates that have already taken, or intend to sit for, the CPA exam.

On a daily basis, auditors:
 interview agency staff
 test controls and account balances
 use analytics to evaluate transactions
 come to conclusions on assigned audit work
 work collaboratively with team members
 test compliance with federal regulations and state laws

The Capital of Montana and hub of state government, Helena combines the amenities of a large city with a charming and historic downtown district. There is access to trail systems, numerous lakes, and a summer concert series every Wednesday night.

Special Information:
A criminal records background check will be required as a condition of employment. Employees of the Legislative Audit Division and members of their household are not allowed to purchase tickets in any lottery games affiliated with the Montana State Lottery. Some travel and compensatory time is required and varies based on assigned audit work.
