Overview:
The Legislative Audit Division (LAD) is seeking a financial compliance associate or senior auditor. Directed by the Legislative Auditor, LAD is responsible for auditing Montana state agencies and programs.

We are recruiting a Financial Compliance Auditor at the Associate or Senior level; initial placement and salary will be determined based on experience as of the date of hire.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate has:
a bachelor’s degree by start of employment
6 semester hours (or equivalent quarter hours) of relevant upper division accounting coursework
analytical and critical thinking skills
sound written and verbal communication skills
ability to work well independently and within a team setting
good interpersonal skills
Preference will be given to candidates that have already taken, or intend to sit for, the CPA exam.
Associate Financial Compliance Auditor: 0-3 years of relevant experience.
Senior Financial Compliance Auditor: 2-5 years of relevant experience, including supervision of other staff and/or leading audits of governmental entities.
Responsibilities:
On a daily basis, auditors:
interview agency staff
test controls and account balances
use analytics to evaluate transactions
come to conclusions on assigned audit work
test compliance with federal regulations and state laws
work collaboratively with team members
Salary and Benefits:
The salary is $50,534 for an associate and $56,278 for a senior. Both are negotiable based on experience. Benefits include a state contribution to a retirement fund, paid vacation and sick leave, and $12,648 per year towards health, life, dental, and vision insurance.

The Capital of Montana and hub of state government, Helena combines the amenities of a large city with a charming and historic downtown district. With accessibility to trail systems, numerous lakes, and Great Divide ski resort, there are plenty of activities in both summer and winter months. Helena has an excellent school system as well as a variety of parks, playgrounds, and green spaces.
Special Information:
A criminal records background check will be required as a condition of employment. Employees of the Legislative Audit Division and members of their household are not allowed to purchase tickets in any lottery games affiliated with the Montana State Lottery. Some travel and compensatory time is required and varies based on assigned audit work.
